Set within the established CSIRO Marsfield campus, this refurbishment revitalised three existing workplace buildings to better support contemporary work practices while respecting the character and constraints of the original facilities. The project formed part of the organisation's consolidation of its Sydney operations into a single, future-focused campus while maintaining continuity within an active research environment.
Working within the constraints of existing facilities, the design focused on adapting and enhancing rather than rebuilding. Existing layouts were reconfigured to create more open, connected, and flexible environments, improving collaboration, and the overall workplace experience for a diverse range of users.
A strong emphasis was placed on sustainability through the integration of reused furniture and existing workplace assets.
“One of the key challenges of this project was working within an existing layout of numerous small, enclosed spaces while maximising the reuse of existing furniture from other sites. Through targeted interventions and careful planning, we transformed the three wings into more functional and connected workplaces, creating a better experience for users while minimising waste and disruption.”
